"PINHEAD COUNTRY" -
KNNK has been blessed with a great
reach and range as to how far our signal carries, especially for
mobile listeners. (In optimum conditions, basically from the
Lubbock area to the Oklahoma state line...from Tucumcari to
beyond
Claude...and from Portales NM to Boise City, OK.) In the
early stages of our development, we would hear from listeners from
throughout the area shown, telling us where they were picking up
our signal. We would mark each place on a map in our break
room,
and began to officially designate callers as "KNNK
Pinheads"
(named for the map-pins dotting cities and burghs and wide
spots in
the road) in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and
Kansas.
We later re-designed our official coverage map, and added
an outer
circle as shown above, calling the outside circle "Pinhead
Country."

neighbor with the beautiful and majestic Palo
Duro Canyon, located just
to our East in the next county. Its
early day inhabitants
included the explorer, Coronado and his
followers, and in the early
settlement of the Panhandle this
land served as ranching headquarters
for Col.Charles
Goodnight, the inspiration for the musical drama
"Texas"
performed each summer in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
